Anti-Theft

Intel® Anti-Theft Technology (Intel® AT)1 is built right into laptop hardware. This advanced technology helps IT administrators lock down lost or stolen laptops, even if thieves attempt to reimage the OS, change the boot order, or install a new hard drive.

Intel® Anti-Theft Technology is available on 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processor and 3rd generation Intel® Core™ vPro™ processor-based laptops, as well as select previous generation Intel Core and Intel Core vPro processor-based laptops.

Protect Business Data with Embedded Security

When laptops are lost or stolen, they can be locked down—automatically or by remote command. Once locked down, the laptop does not boot up to the OS and is not functional. When used with the enabled data protection offering, access to the encrypted data on the hard drive is locked down as well. If the laptop is recovered, a reactivation code can be used to quickly return it to normal operation.

Laptop security for your company

With a strong, hardware-based approach to protecting laptops and the data stored on them, Intel® AT ensures that if one layer of security is breached, there is another layer of protection readily available. This is particularly important in light of the fact that 12,000 laptops disappear every week from U.S. airports alone,2 and of all lost laptops, 46% had confidential data and no encryption.3 With a multi-layered solution, IT has maximum flexibility and secure control of network assets. Intel AT offers a range of options to help secure mobile assets in the event that corporate assets and data go missing. For example:

  • The PC can be locked down using a “poison pill” to block the boot process, even if the boot order is changed or the hard drive is replaced or reformatted. Regardless of the PC’s state, it will check as soon as it starts to wake up for any kill pill that has been sent, including those sent via text message.
  • Failure to check in with the central server can trigger PC disable when a check-in time is missed. The IT administrator can set system check-in intervals. Upon a missed check-in time, the system is locked down until the user reactivates the system.
  • Tamper detection and protection. Intel AT detects component tampering, such as CMOS battery removal, excessive login attempts, etc., and  automatically locks down the laptop.
  • A customizable “Theft Mode” message allows the IT administrator to send a message to anyone who starts up the laptop to notify them that it has been reported stolen.
