How to Resolve Intel® Optane™ Memory Pinning Error: Unable to load DLL ‘iaStorAfsServiceApi.dll

No Compatible Disk for Intel® Optane™ Memory or

There are no valid disk pairs in your system or

There are too many volumes in your system or

Your system appears to be Intel® Optane™ memory ready, but no Intel® Optane™ memory modules were detected in your computer.

This error is stating that even thought the module may be present in the system, the application can't detect it for enabling acceleration.

The reason for this is typically due to a configuration issue and the following should be checked:
  • Is the system Intel Optane memory-ready and has the proper BIOS to support?  Check with the system vendor for more information.
  • Is the module in the proper M.2 socket?
    • Some boards/systems may have multiple M.2 sockets, but only one that supports Intel Optane memory. The vendor or user manual should be consulted to make sure.
  • Is remapping enabled for the M.2 socket being used? (Note: Intel® Optane™ memory M series only.  Intel® Optane™ memory H series products require remapping to be disabled.)

Another potential reason could be that the module has been previously used in another volume, so it may need to be "cleaned".
  • After backing up all data on the module.
  • The Diskpart* application can be used to remove all partitions and metadata from the module, see here for more information on this process.

If assistance is still needed after checking these items, contact support under Memory and Storage for assistance.
Error Occurred
The Intel® Optane™ Memory application ran into a problem migrating files. Open Windows Event Viewer for details.

Visit the Intel® Optane™ Memory support page for help.
This error may be due to bad blocks or an error with the drive to be accelerated drive. We don’t recommend using Intel Optane memory with this drive.
Unsupported BIOS or
Unsupported System Drive
Your BIOS doesn’t support Intel Optane memory or your BIOS mode is in Legacy Mode.

Action:
  • Confirm your system has the proper capabilities (Intel Optane memory-capable) in the BIOS to support Intel Optane memory with your BIOS/Platform vendor.
    • If the platform is Intel Optane memory-capable, make sure that the latest BIOS is installed:
      • Back up all files on your system.
      • Update the BIOS.
      • Make sure that the SATA controller is still set to RST Premium and Remapping is still enabled after the update (full configuration details).
        • Note: Remapping should be Enabled for Intel® Optane™ memory M series only.  Intel® Optane™ memory H series products require remapping to be disabled.
  • UEFI is required for Intel® Optane™ memory support. If the Boot mode in the BIOS is set to Legacy, or CSM enabled, enabling system acceleration will not work. When an operating system installation occurs while in Legacy mode the partition structure is MBR, which is not supported.  A GPT partition structure is required, which is created when the operating system is installed when in UEFI mode.
Your system drive is starting to degrade. Disable Intel® Optane™ Memory to avoid data loss.

Visit the Intel® Optane™ Memory support page for help.

The application has detected a degradation in the health status of the accelerated volume.

To avoid data loss, we recommend disabling Intel Optane memory.

Action:

  • Back up all data before proceeding.
  • Disable volume through application.
  • Review SMART logs for the drive to determine what the issue could be. Utilities such as Intel® SSD Toolbox provide capability to view SMART details.
  • We recommend using a new drive for system acceleration.

This type of error requires more information to determine a proper resolution, contact support under Memory and Storage for assistance.
0xA0000002

This error occurs when trying to enable acceleration on the system.  It looks to be due to the SW being unable to create the 5 MB unallocated space at the end of the drive that is required.

This may be due to the drive type being 'Dynamic' or a Storage Space, as Intel® Optane™ memory is only capable of accelerating drives of type "Basic".   This will require backing up all data and following the process described here for more information

0xA001004B, 0xA001004C, 0xA001004E To support system acceleration with Intel Optane memory, the drive to be accelerated must contain at least 5 MB of continuous unallocated space at the end of the drive. Intel Optane memory needs this space to store configuration information to successfully pair the drive with the memory module.

Action: Confirm the drive to be accelerated contains 5 MB of continuous unallocated space at the end of the drive.

Take caution before proceeding. We recommend backing up all data.

You can view and modify disk setup in Disk Management (Windows Key + x > Disk Management).
  • Shrink the partition at the end of the drive. Right-click the partition of the system OS drive you want to accelerate. Select Shrink Volume.
  • If this option isn’t available, the partition may not be shrinkable or there may not be space to allocate.
  • (For HDDs) If there’s no space, defrag the system volume to create shrinkable space.
  • If there’s a locked partition at the end of the volume that can’t be shrunk, see How to Resize a Partition for other options.
Note If there’s a recovery partition at the end of your system disk, it may not be movable. You may need to rebuild your OS image, but we recommend working with your OEM or motherboard vendor before proceeding.
